I’ve heard I have to keep going forever!
At the end of a charity event I attended a few weeks ago, a friendly young woman approached me with a big smile and said “I think I need to be adjusted, but I’ve heard that you have to keep going forever.” This is a concern I hear quite often. I asked what SHE thought would happen if she only received a couple of chiropractic adjustments. Her answer surprised me. She said, “I don’t know… that it might hurt if I stop going.” I replied with a simple “No. Your body may return to the state it was in before chiropractic care, and those old symptoms may reappear, but there’s nothing in an adjustment that’ll make you depend on getting adjusted besides feeling good!”
Over time, stress and trauma on our bodies cause us to move differently to cope with the little aches and pains we experience. These little compensating moves can cause restrictions and misalignments in the spine. Chiropractic adjustments remove interference from the nerves exiting the spine by relieving restrictions in vertebral joints, and restoring proper movement.
Many chiropractic patients only get adjusted when they hurt, and that is okay! However, they’re missing out on some of the best stuff chiropractic has to offer! So, no you certainly don’t need to come in forever, but coming in for tune-ups every few weeks or months will keep you moving properly, and smiling!
